DMYHA High School Hockey

HSHL is open to hockey players who are (or will be) in 9th - 12th grade. Unlike the younger age divisions, HSHL is unique because the team rosters do not change from one year to the next, allowing players to bond with their teammates and settle into their team and its culture.

DMYHA is home to seven teams. Each team participates in the Iowa High School Hockey Alliance league along with other communities throughout the state. Because of this, families should expect about three out-of-town trips per season.

HSHL players will enjoy competing in the year-end Alliance tournament as well as a smaller, local, city championship between the Des Moines teams.

Regular season games will be scheduled weekends, players should expect approximately 18-24 games, depending on the number of teams actively participating in Alliance.

Practices are an hour long, typically twice per week, and begin after 8pm, some after 9pm.

The 18u Jr Bucs select team is comprised of players participating on one of our DMYHA High School Hockey League teams. This team will compete at the Jr. Gold level, participating in 3-5 tournaments per season. The 18u Jr Bucs have one or two additional practices per week, which typically begin at 9:30pm.

This season we will be planning on one single team at this level; however, a second team might be considered based on try-out numbers and skill level. Tryouts will be held August 26 & 27, 2026.
